Updating a Channergy Build

Introduction

The purpose of this page is to provide you guidance on updating your system with a new build.  The process is generally as follows:

  1. Install Channergy on your server
  2. Update the database
  3. Update the client systems

Here are the details

Install Channergy on Your Server

The server installation depends on whether or not you are running Channergy using the client server or not.

Client Server Option

Open Channergy on the server and make sure that it is connected directly to the database folder, there should be NO client server login prompt.

 

If you do get a client server login prompt, go to File->Open Database… and select the direct connection to the database folder. After it connects directly to the database, close Channergy on the server.

 

Stop the Channergy Services

If you do not have the Channergy Service Manager installed, do the following.

  1. Open the Services applet on your server.  Depending on the version of operating system, you can locate it by typing Services in the search bar next to the Start button. 
  2. Locate the DBSRVR and click on the Stop the service link.
  3. Locate the MCM and click on the Stop the service link.
  4. Leave the services app open.

If you do have the Channergy Services Manger, simply run it and click on the Stop Services button.

Run The Channergy Update Installer

Download the latest update for version of Channergy from http://www.core-tech.com/pub/Channergy20XXUpdate.exe  where XX is your version of Channergy

Save the Channergy20XXUpdate.exe to a shared folder on your network.

Run the installer as follows

  1. If the existing Channergy.exe is not installed in the default folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Channergy 20XX), then click on the Change… button and select the correct folder.
    1. Newer releases of Channergy will be installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Channergy.
  2. If your database folder is not the default (C:\Channergy\Data), click on the Change… button and select the data folder.
  3. Select the Server Install option. 
  4. Click on the Install button when prompted.
  5. Open Channergy and let the database update process complete (if prompted)

Start the Channergy Services

If you do not have the Channergy Service Manager installed do the following

  1. Locate the MCM in the Services app and click on the Start service link.
  2. Locate the DBSRVR in the Services app and click on the Start service link.
  3. Close the Services app.

If you do have the Channergy Service Manager installed, do the following

  1. Start the Channergy Service Manager
  2. Click on Start Services
  3. Close the Channergy Service Manager

Install Channergy on the Client Systems

On each workstation select the Channergy20XXUpdate.exe on the shared drive and run the installer.

  1. If the existing Channergy.exe is not installed in the default folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Channergy 20XX), then click on the Change… button and select the correct folder.
    1. Newer releases of Channergy will be installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Channergy.
  2. In the database folder selection, you can keep the default folder (C:\Channergy\Data).  This just creates an empty database on the local system.
  3. Select the Client Install option.
  4. Click on the Install button when prompted.
  5. Open Channergy.  If Channergy prompts you to update the database do the following:
    1. Go to File->Open Database…
    2. Select the database from the list of network database locations.
    3. Click Ok to open the database.
