Assembly Management Tool

Introduction

This utility is designed to allow customers to build or break apart assemblies.  It adjusts the quantities of each component accordingly.

Installation and Setup

The application will need to be installed in the Channergy data folder, or the Client Server folder if you are using the client-server option..  You can access it from the Tools menu in Channergy by using the ManageShortucts utility, selecting Programs from the combo box and selecting it from the list.

Running the Application

The application can be run from directly inside Channergy from the tools menu.

Product Setup

The utility requires that the products be set up prior to using the application.  The utility uses two classes of products.

Kits- These are the finished products.  Their inventory is tracked as a completed unit and it is sold as such.  In our test database they are designated by AMB in the product name such as BOS-AMB-CLPK495-181.

Assemblies- These are non inventory products that “contain” the components used to build the finished product.  The items that are used to build the products will be contained in the Assembly tab of the product. In our example the products have a KIT suffix, such as BOS-AMB-CLPK495-181-KIT

Building a Kit

The application loads all of the products in the Select Assembly Product combo box that meet the criteria for the assembly product number.  Select the product that you want to build.

The application will display the description of the selected product, the current In Stock of the product, the components that are used to build the product, the quantity of each component as well as the In Stock quantity of each.

Add the number of finished products you want to create in the Adjust Quantity By field.  If there is not enough of one of the products to build the quantity you want, it will be highlighted in red.  In our example I chose to build 5 of the Tool Combo Kits.  However you can see from the screenshot below that we do not have enough product in one of the components to do that.

You will see what the new In Stock quantities would be for both the finished product and the kit components if the products were built in the New In Stock for the assembly and the NewInStock fields for the components.

Note that there are no adjustments made to the live inventory until you click on the Adjust Kit button.  In the case above, the application will not let you do that and will display an error if you try.

If there is enough inventory to build the assembly, the following dialog box will show.

Breaking Down A Kit

The application also allows you to take an assembled product and break it down into its components.  The process is the same as for building a it except that you would put in a negative number in the Adjust Quantity By field

As in the case above, if you try to break down an kit that you do not have enough product for, the application will show the New In Stock in red.

Note that there are no adjustments made to the live inventory until you click on the Adjust Kit button.  In the case above, the application will not let you do that and will display an error if you try.

If there is enough inventory to build the assembly, the following dialog box will show.

Customization

The application has the ability to use different filters to determine your kit and assembly products are named in the database this is accessed using the Settings button.

You can use the wildcard character (%) to select the kit product skus.  In our case, the %-AMB-% means select any product that has -AMB- as part of the product number.

The Assembly Products Suffix is what tells the application where to find the assembly product and the related components.  In our example if a product that you want to build is ABC-AMB-123 then the related assembly product would be ABC-AMB-123-KIT.

Under The Hood

The application also creates and adds data to a table in the Channergy database that tracks what products have been assembled or broken down.  The table is called KitAdjustments

This table can be used with the reporting tool in Channergy.
